South African President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Angie Motshekga as acting president as he flew out to Harare for the SADC Summit on August 17.
Motshekga, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, was sworn in as acting South African President by outgoing Chief Justice Zondo.
The 44th SADC Summit is running under the theme, “Promoting Innovation to unlock opportunities for sustained economic growth and development towards an Industrialised SADC.”

Thirteen SADC Heads of State are physically attending the 44th SADC Summit in Zimbabwe’s capital Harare which will see President Mnangagwa take over the rotational Chairmanship from Angola’s President João Lourenço.
Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema is attending the SADC Summit virtually, while the Presidents of Comoros, Seychelles, and Mauritius are not in attendance.
