Claudia Sheinbaum was sworn in as Mexico’s first female president on 1 October 2024 after winning the country’s presidential election with 35,924,519 votes (61.18%).
Sheinbaum was the presidential candidate for the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (Morena), she is an environmental scientist by profession with a PhD in Energy engineering.
The 67-year-old won the June 2 presidential election with a landslide and takes over from her political mentor President López Obrador who led the country from 2018 to 2024.

- Born on 24 June 1962 in Mexico City
- Sheinbaum’s mother Annie Pardo Cemo is a biologist while her father Carlos Sheinbaum Yoselevitz was a chemical engineer
- She was married to Carlos Imaz Gispert in 1987, they have a daughter Mariana Imaz born in 1988 and they divorced in 2016
- Sheinbaum has two siblings: Julio her older brother and Andriana her younger sister
- She has a BSc in Physics (1989), a MEng in Energy Engineering (1992) and a PhD in Energy Engineering (1999)
- Sheinbaum was a faculty member and researcher at the Institute of Engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) from 1995 to 2000 and from 2006 to 2015.
- She was the Secretary of the Environment of Mexico City from 2000 to 2006
- Sheinbaum was the Mayor of the Tlalpan borough from 2015 to 2017
- She is a co-recipient of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize with US VP Al Gore.
- Sheinbaum was the head of the government of Mexico City (2018 – 2023)
- She got married to Jesús María Tarriba Unger in 2023
- Sheinbaum became the 66th President of Mexico on 1 October 2024 becoming the first woman and Jewish in the position.
