The Web Institute is a Botswana-based think tank hosted by Povo News to conduct multidisciplinary research on web technologies and the impact of the Internet on society.
Since the creation of the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989, its influence on the world’s culture, economy, politics and environment is unrivaled.
While the web has brought about significant benefits and advancements, it also reinforces existing societal inequalities in the economy, education, health, and housing.
The Web Institute is committed to exploring new ideas, developing practical solutions, and performing cross-functional research on web technologies and the internet. Our goals are to:
- Provide evidence-based policy recommendations
- Address critical questions
- Bridge the digital divide
- Drive positive change
Our vision is to create a digital economy that better serves people and society by focusing on eight research themes in our work with industry, academia, governments, and civil society.
- AI Ethics
