Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi was officially nominated on August 31 as the ruling party’s candidate for the 2024 general elections.
The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is holding its national congress at the Royal Aria Stadium in Tlokweng from August 31 to September 1.
On August 10, Botswana’s main opposition leader Duma Gideon Boko launched the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) manifesto at the same venue.
In the 2019 general elections, Masisi’s BDP secured 53% of the vote, defeating Boko’s UDC, which received 36%.
Now seeking a second and final term, Masisi is expected to launch the BDP’s manifesto on Sunday, the final day of the congress.
