Kenyan businessman Jimi Wanjigi arrested for allegedly sponsoring anti-government protests

Kenyan businessman Jimi Wanjigi was arrested by the Directorate of Criminals Investigations (DCI) in Milimani on August 19.

Wanjigi was summoned by the DCI and was scheduled to meet with Regional Police boss Adamson Bungei to record a statement over allegations that he funded anti-government protests.

On August 8 police officers raided Wanjigi’s home and later claimed they recovered gas canisters from his car. Wanjigi later denied owning the vehicle and accused the police of planting things to find a reason to arrest him.

The Kenyan businessman later obtained a court order barring the police from arresting him or restricting his movements.
