New MK Party MPs sworn into South African parliament

New MPs from South Africa’s main opposition uMkhonto weSizwe Party were sworn into parliament by National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza on August 28.

The new MPs include former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe, former PRASA CEO Lucky Montana, former Transnet CEO Siyabonga Gama, and former government spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi.

Molefe, Montana, Gama, and Manyi all featured prominently in the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture that began in August 2018 and concluded in 2022.

Other MK MPs sworn in today include Thembisile Siboniso Mjadu, Nompumelelo Matilda Gasa, Gezani Eric Kobane, and Thulani Innocent Gamede.

The new MPs were sworn in to replace those who were dismissed on August 8, just two months after the latter had assumed their seats in the National Assembly.
