Sudan’s state prosecutors charged ex-president Omar al-Bashir with corruption after completion of an investigation on Thursday, June 13.
PovoNews.com previously reported that Bashir was arrested & forced to resign by the military on Thursday, April 11 after 30 years in power.
“Omar al-Bashir will appear in court next week,” Attorney General Al-Walid Sayyed Ahmed told reporters, without giving a precise date for the hearing.
In April, Sudan’s army ruler General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said that more than 113 million dollars worth of cash in three currencies had been seized from Bashir’s residence.
Bashir was also charged in May over the killings of protesters during anti-government protests that led to the end of his rule.
Negotiations between protest leaders and the military council in control of the country have stalled after the army killed over 100 people outside the military headquarters in Sudan’s capital who were demanding a return to civilian rule.
