Zambia’s former first lady Esther Lungu was arrested on July 6 on multiple charges including possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime and car theft.
Mrs. Lungu is the wife of Zambia’s former President Edgar Lungu, during his tenure from 2015 to 2021 the current President Hakainde Hichilema was arrested multiple times.
Esther Lungu arrived at the Ibex Hill Police Station accompanied by her husband Edgar Lungu and members of Zambia’s main opposition the Patriotic Front after being summoned by the police.
The former First Lady was questioned and detained along with four others: James Phiri, Lee Chisulo, Kapambwe Lungu, and Catherine Banda for stealing 3 cars, title deeds, and $ 40,000.
Mattresses and blankets were as members of the Patriotic Front including Edgar Lungu vowed to sleep at the police station until the former first lady Esther Lungu was released.
Early Friday morning Esther Lungu was released from remand prison, when she arrived home the former first lady thanked people who stood by her when she was imprisoned.
