Zim Finance Minister Chinamasa officially opened a “BIN” in Rusape

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance, Patrick Chinamasa officially opened three rubbish bins (skips) during a clean-up campaign in Rusape on 19 July 2018.

The official launch of the bin by Chinamsa is part of the Finance Minister’s election campaign ahead of Zimbabwe’s 2018 presidential elections.

Chinamasa commissioned the Vengere Multi-Purpose Sports Court, led a clean-up campaign in Rusape CBD, and officially opened 2 rubbish skips at the Main Bus Terminus, and one at the Evergreen Market.

Zimbabwean activist pastor Evan Mawarire questioned the logic of officially opening a bin in a post on Facebook saying

Former Facebook monitoring minister Patrick Chinamasa who was promoted to finance minister officially opened a bin in Rusape! A BIN??? No No No No this can’t be the future guys NO! To see the sadness of this think about how many SUV’s drove out hundreds of kilometers for this? How many high level civil servants were away from work accompanying the minister? How much man hours is this? Meanwhile cash is still not available for the poorest of our citizens and the economy is dead. Why is the minister of finance officially opening bins?? I’m done

A week later the bin that Chinamasa officially opened was filled with rubbish with a growing pile on the side of the skip.
